Regulations:
- Who Can Post?
- Pilots with atleast Private Pilot license meeting all requirements set by FAA (or the regulatory body in their respective country)
- Commercial Operators - Air charter, Air tour companies.
- What can pilots charge?
- Pilots without Commercial license are subject to FAR Sec. 61.113, which means that pilots can only share the operational cost with other passengers and can not charge for their service
- Pilots with Commercial license should make sure that they can operate aircraft commercially based on insurance of yourself and the aircraft. Else, you should follow FAR Sec. 61.113 guidelines
- Only commercial operators (e.g. Part 135 certified by FAA or CFI) can charge for their services.
FAR Sec. 61.113 - Private pilot privileges and limitations: Pilot in command.
- Except as provided in paragraphs (b) through (g) of this section, no person who holds a private pilot certificate may act as pilot in command of an aircraft that is carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire; nor may that person, for compensation or hire, act as pilot in command of an aircraft.
- A private pilot may, for compensation or hire, act as pilot in command of an aircraft in connection with any business or employment if:
- The flight is only incidental to that business or employment; and
- The aircraft does not carry passengers or property for compensation or hire.
- A private pilot may not pay less than the pro rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with passengers, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees.
Explicity, The F.A.R.'s allow you to charge PRO-RATA share (equal share of total cost) with passengers for the costs listed under:
- Fuel & Oil
- Airport Expenditures (Landing Fees, Ramp Fees, etc.)
- Rental Fees
Further,
- You can not be solicited by passengers i.e. You must be going where YOU want to be going. For example, a passenger cannot approach you and say "Take me to XXX and I will pay half the fuel costs". But, if you are flying from Point A to Point B and you said, "Want to join me? We can split the expenses."
- You CAN NOT charge anything for your own services. You need to get commercial before you can charge for the services
